Die for Life
A Memento Mori on Life by Anca Munteanu Rimnic
life - a waiting room. numbers are announced, others are drawn, hustle and bustle counteracts deadly boring and stagnant minutes, time seems to be conserved in aspic, people get up, disappear into rooms. singing or murmuring. finally someone says something. but what? is he talking about a phobia, a fear, a disease? or is he talking about an onion?
the main thing is to be alive somehow, the main thing is to feel something, humans would die to live.
successful communication seems unlikely, misunderstandings are the normal state, death is only a step aside.
maybe start practicing your own funeral? but nobody wants to kick the bucket. so, let’s get it started.
the death positive movement, for instance, encourages us to talk openly about death and dying.
in this work, visual artist anca munteanu rimnic deals with the big issues: life and death.
beginnings, attempts at contact, communication disruptions in everyday life with other people, whether family, strangers, colleagues, partners, or with apparatuses and things, routines, proxies such as eating, moving around, carrying things back and forth, appear as a search and longing for the beauty of the naked direct simplicity of life before the inevitability of death.
"die for life" describes this (eternal) state of being with all its weaknesses and failures. stuttering and speechless, blinded by reality, by fears and longings, the performers search on stage for a common ground, for closeness and warmth, to breathe the breath of a conciliatory absurdity agains the coldness of reality and the brutality of life.
"die for life" is a musical and visual poem, committed to the tragicomic notes of existence in repetitive gestures and situations.
