Workshop and reading

On International Day of People with Disabilities, Gessnerallee is offering a workshop in accessible communication. Professional translators will introduce the "easy language" tool and work with participants to create their own texts. In a relaxed atmosphere with mulled wine and alphabet cookies, there will be a reading of stories in plain language from the anthology "Und dann klingelst du bei mir" by and with the authors Usama Al Shahmani and Ivna Žic.

Admission is free. Limited number of participants. Only with binding pre-registration.
Reservations at: gerst@gessnerallee.ch

What is easy language?
Easy language is a simplified, yet correct form of German. It is easy to understand. Anyone can understand it. It has fixed rules.

Easy language is useful for many people. For example for
- People with learning difficulties
- People whose first language is not German
- People with dementia or who have had a stroke
- People who cannot read well

The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which Switzerland signed in 2014, explicitly states that easy-to-read language should enable users to participate in all areas of life - including cultural participation, as required by Article 40 of the UNCRPD.
