The Lobster
Love in times of capitalism
Swipe right, match, the big love, next!
In the 2020s, the happiness of love will be like that of electronic devices: Their further development and planned obsolescence shorten their shelf life.
Director Maximilian Hanisch gives the epoch of instant love a form. For this, he and his team were inspired by Giorgos Lanthimos' cult film "The Lobster" (2015). In it, people are allowed to live exclusively in couple relationships. Singles are given 45 days to find a new partner. Those who do not succeed will be turned into an animal.
In Neumarkt: Five performers vie for their next lover - who has to wait, because: who is good enough for you? As the deadline draws to a close, a glimmer of hope appears on the horizon. Far from civilization, people live who resist the tyranny of the two-way relationship.
In a tragicomic way, a mirror image of our time emerges on stage, a "match society" that stumbles from one couple relationship to the next, driven by the pursuit of optimization and desire. An evening about people, animals, narcissism and the search for the real great love.
